At the heart of The Black Coffee Company’s success is Dr. Leonard E. Lightfoot, who serves as both our CFO and Head Coffee Roaster. Based in Fairfax, VA (Roastery Coming Soon), Dr. Lightfoot isn't your typical financial leader. With a Ph.D. from Michigan State University and a foundation built at Xavier University of Louisiana, his path to CFO was anything but conventional. A self-taught investor with a rich background in advanced technology, he blends a unique combination of financial savvy and technical expertise that shapes both our strategy and our signature coffee blends.

Under his leadership, we’ve raised over $300,000 through six successful rounds of crowdfunding, enabling our expansion into the Southeast and the DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia) region.

What truly sets Dr. Lightfoot apart is his ability to master not one, but multiple roles with finesse. On any given day, you might find him:

• Designing cutting-edge financial models to power our next big growth phase

• Perfecting our roasting methods to maintain our exceptional flavor profiles

• Securing new partnerships as our roastery takes root in the DMV area

Dr. Lightfoot’s previous work overseeing Science and Technology Sensor Technology and Combat Identification Technology portfolios for the Dept. of Defense (Air Force) gives him a unique analytical lens that enhances both our financial operations and the artistry behind every coffee roast. His unwavering focus on precision and improvement has fostered a culture of excellence throughout the company.

Away from the spreadsheets and roasting machines, Dr. Lightfoot is a proud family man. As a husband and father of three young boys, he’s deeply committed to building generational wealth and providing educational opportunities. His Belizean roots infuse our company with a rich cultural perspective, influencing both our approach to community engagement and business growth.
